Who would have thought that right in the middle of a quiet residential area in San Juan City lies a very quaint restaurant?
I was very surprised and at the same time impressed when I first saw Guevarra's for the first time. It was like travelling back in time because its interior and ambiance definitely has that affluence and old-world charm vibe. Chef Laudico managed to turn this old-fashioned 1940's Filipino home into a very beautiful restaurant that's flocked by food lovers whether it's a weekday lunch or a weekend dinner.
Guevarra's is Chef Laudico's buffet-style restaurant that features traditional Filipino dishes with a modern twist. Angus Beef Kare-Kare, Angus Beef Tapa, Christmas Canton, and Sinampalukang Manok are just some of their gastronomic dishes they serve. With all these delicious dishes served, one round is definitely not enough if you want to try them all.
Those with a sweet tooth will definitely love their dessert area. They have a caramel fountain, and an ice cream machine! (ICE CREAM ALL YOU WANT! Oh Yeah!) Aside from the soft-serve ice cream made from carabao's milk, they also serve mini red velvet cupcakes, suman balls, chocolate crinkles, chocolate tart, and kalabasa pastillas to name a few. Because there's always, always, room for dessert, I definitely had to go for seconds, especially with the crepes made on-the-spot.

Guevarra's already had their soft opening last March but it was just yesterday, July 16, 2013, that they had their Grand Opening with no less than Senator JV Ejercito, Mayor Guia Gomez, Vice Mayor Francis Zamora and various VIP's and celebrities as guests.
It was a very festive grand opening starting with the Folk Dance Troupe to welcome the honored guests. The Miss Philippines beauty queens were also in attendance to support Guevarra's Grand Opening. The whole restaurant was filled with VIPs, celebrities , and media/press people, all in support of Guevarra's , and Chef Jac and Chef Lau.

Mark Mabasa also serenaded guests with his beautiful renditions.
Guevarra's part in preserving and promoting Filipino culture and history by paying homage to Filipino genius through culinary artistry and visual arts is very evident in Guevarra's food and interior. In fact, they even exhibited Filipino artist Vincent Padilla's artwork all over the restaurant. Some of the artist's work were also auctioned for the benefit of Philippine Red Cross San Juan.

The artist has his roots in San Juan where he was born but his talent and artistic voice was truly honed in Antipolo where he met and spent time with artists from the acclaimed Grupong Saling Pusa such as Elmer Borlongan, Mark Justiniani and Manny Garibay. He has joined numerous art competitions and won acclaim as the Juror's Choice Awardee in 2003 during the Philip Morris Philippine Art Awards, which led him to represent our country in the 2004 Art Awards which were held in Bangkok, Thailand that year.

You've probably seen his works before because he has also been featured in exhibits in places such as New York, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong as well as numerous other places.

I was a very lucky enough to have witnessed and to have been a part of this once in a lifetime event because I got to meet Chef Jac and Chef Lau who were both very friendly and accommodating.
So if your'e looking for a place to indulge your love for Filipino dishes, eat-all-you-can restaurants, or your craving for something delicious - head on to Guevarra's. You will definitely love that marriage of the old-world charm and the new-world gastronomical adventure.
