The Coffee Journey

I am not much of a coffee drinker myself. In fact, everything I know about coffee can be found inside a 3 in 1 sachet or that occasional mocha frappe. I never understood coffee. There seems to be a wide range of coffees from all over the world yet for me, they all taste the same - bitter. It never seems to taste as good as it smells. So when I saw an invitation from afters Espresso and Desserts for a Coffee Journey, I thought it's about time I get to know this bean a little more.

The Plump Pinays

"I think a lot of our anguish over our flaws and weaknesses simply comes from trying to impress ourselves with our own perfection." - Joyce Meyer

I used to weigh 120 lbs. until I got pregnant and everything just went plump from there. I have stretchmarks that can put a zebra to shame, cellulite in every part imaginable, breasts that are not in their perky selves, a belly that jiggles more than Jell-o, and yes, that shameless back fat. To say the least, I became really depressed about my appearance and weight-gain. Everyday, I searched for inspirations to remind me of how beautiful I am despite all the weight I gained and I am very thankful to have stumbled upon Danah and Stacy's blog.

On Mommy's Vanity: Essence Eyebrow Designer in 04 Blonde

Warning: This is not for the faint of heart (or product).

I am very obsessed in drawing my brows as I am obsessed with lipsticks. I am always looking for new eyebrow products be it pencils or powders. So when Essence came to the Philippines, I had to check out their brow kits/products. I loved their foundations and gel liner so I thought I would love their eyebrow pencil as well. I was wrong. To say the least I am very DISAPPOINTED. I just wasted Php 109.00 on this.

The Chikungunya Virus

Hi there!

I saw warnings about Chikungunya on TV Patrol the other night and I can't help remember my experiences with this virus so I thought I'd share it with you.

For the Love of Babab: My Little Tot's Comfort Object

Oh Hello there!

Does your little one have a comfort object? Mine certainly does and she might be just a little bit obsessed with it.

Comfort objects, according to Nickelodeon Parent Connect, are sometimes called transitional objects, security objects, lovies, blankies or other made-up names. Usually babies between 9 and 12 months choose their comfort objects and once chosen, the object may be a part of the family for years to come.

NO to Domestic Violence Against Children

I know how the daily tasks can make us very tired and irritable. With everything that's going on, we could easily lose our temper that even a child's faintest cry can make us snap. I understand this perfectly, even as a stay-at-home-mom I get tired too at the end of the day. But no matter how exhausted I am, I exert extra effort to control myself when Yomi starts crying and acting up. I walk away when I know I am losing my temper because I don't want to hurt her out of anger. I am afraid of what I might do to her.
Some adults, unfortunately, cannot control their anger especially when dealing with children. Just like what my siblings and I witnessed tonight.

Sunday Grub and Ukay-Ukay Finds

Hello! Hello!

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Yesterday, My sister called my mother at around 8 AM inviting her for lunch in Megamall. I asked if Yomi and I could tag along and she said yes. The husband is still sleeping (he came home a bit late) so I just let him sleep.

We arrived in Megamall at around 10:30 AM and we had lunch at Gumbo. This is actually my first time dining here and it wasn't disappointing.

That's Yomi's Dora checking out the menu

On Mommy's Vanity: Ever Bilena Studio Finish Stick Foundation in Beige

Because I was looking for a cheap matte foundation, I decided to try this. Here's what I think about it.

Widely used by professionals, this lightly scented studio finish foundation creates moderate coverage with a natural matte finish. This foundation contains vitamin E that helps moisturize the skin. can also conceal dark circles, redness, and minor skin imperfection. Just swivel up the barrel and voila! the cream foundation will blend easily on the skin without caking or flaking effects.

As I mentioned, I was looking for a cheap matte foundation I can use on normal days (running errands, going to the mall, grocery shopping etc.) so I decided to try this product. The SA told me that this gives a matte finish. Well, she had  me at matte.

I bought this for Php 165.00. For 8 grams of product, I think that's quite a steal. This is available in all leading departments stores and supermarkets. There are 3 shades available: Creme, Miel ,and Beige.

Carrie Lupoli a.k.a "Chief Mum" Meet & Greet

Hello! Hello!

I have assumed my mommy role for just a little over a year and I admit I still have a gazillion things to learn about being a good mother. Sometimes I feel like I am not doing enough as Yomi's mom or that I know a lot  about make up more than I do about first aid kits. To be honest, I am still learning the ropes of motherhood every single day.

That's why when Glaiza of Moomy Musings posted an invitation for a meet and greet with Carrie Lupoli a.k.a Chief Mum and saw that the venue was near our house, I grabbed the chance even though it was very last minute. I had no idea who she was at first but Glaiza had me at 'Chief Mum'. I just knew I'd learn a lot from her. (I googled her before going to the meet & greet.)

Toddlers and Bumps: My Little Tot Fell Off the Crib

Hello! Hello!

Last week, one of the scariest things in my life as a mommy happened. Yomi fell off her playpen.

Photo from

She was already sleepy so I put her in her crib because she's used to sleeping on her own. If she's sleepy I just put MTV on and she will eventually doze off (She loves MTV more than cartoons well, except for Dora). Anyway, I thought she's going to sleep already so I put her in and gave her one of her toys to cuddle. When I thought she's settled in, I turned around and walked away. I was just a few steps away when I suddenly heard a thud followed by a loud cry. In panic, I turned around and saw her lying on the floor. It turned out that as soon as I turned around she stood up and climbed off her crib. I was literally shaking as I hug and comfort her while checking to see if there were any injuries.

Adorable Headbands by Czara's Hair Pieces

Hello! Hello!

When Yomi was a few months old, she had very thin hair and is the spitting image of her daddy. Because of this, she's always mistaken as a baby boy even if she has earrings already. I secretly hate it when people call her 'pogi' or 'good boy' so as much as possible, I always put her in a dress and make her wear large headbands - the larger the flower or ribbon the better. Over time, I have collected many head pieces for her. Aside from the fact that it makes her look like a girl, I just love how cute they look on her.

Sometimes I feel like I have this addiction to headbands. When I see a cute one, I literally have to stop myself from buying because I know she has too much already. Once, I just couldn't help buying a dozen headbands of different colors from Divisoria. They were so cheap! I am also very happy when my friends or sisters buy Yomi headbands. I get all excited for Yomi. :)

On Mommy's Vanity: Essence Lip Liner in 11 In The Nude

This is another very disappointing product from Essence.

I bought this together with the Eyebrow Designer which is also a big FAIL!

I wasted Php 79.00 on this. I wanted a nude lip liner so I got this one but it did nothing but disappoint me.

Champs Chewable Vitamins

Hello! Hello!

Last Thursday, I was invited to my first mommy bloggers event (Thanks Mish!). It was hosted by Chemical Company of Malaysia International Philippines, Inc. (CCMIP), the makers of Champs Chewable Vitamins. The event, entitled “Bloggers Get-to-know CHAMPS Day”, was held at Cerchio Grill & Lounge on Tomas Morato Avenue in Q.C.

I was very excited to go because it's a great opportunity to meet and get to know other mommies and also because events like these are very informative. I am always up for anything that can hone my mommy skills. When I arrived, some moms were already thereh and I got to chat with a  few of them. I love meeting other mommy bloggers I can share stories, tips, and ideas with. It was just a small group and it made the discussion more intimate and relaxed. It's like a group of friends chit chatting over lunch.

We were treated with quite a feast. There were so many delicious food served I had a hard time deciding which one to eat first. Here are just a few pictures of the dishes they served:

I only took few pics of the food. Ang DAMI kasi! I was busy eating. Burrp!

Infairness, Cerchio Grill & Lounge serve really good food! Anyway enough with my ramblings!

 Moving on...

Upcoming Events: Nick Jr. Play Date

My daughter loves Dora a lot. She even thinks her name is Dora. That's why I am very excited to take her to Nick Jr.'s Play Date so she can see Dora, Diego, the Bubble Guppies, and Team Umizoomi.

Anyway, if you do not have plans on the 30th of June yet, you might want to check this out. See you there!

Creamy Tuna Spaghetti Recipe

Hello! Hello!

One of my favorite dishes to cook is pasta. I grew up a spaghetti-loving home where spaghetti is cooked almost as often as Adobo is. I am confident enough to say that my cooking skills have improved since I became a stay-at-home mommy - or at least that's what my husband thinks. My husband is a great cook and I learned most of the things I know from him.

So I'd like to share with you this very easy recipe.

Hello! Hello!

Belated Happy Independence day, everyone! How was your holiday? I hope you got to spend quality time with your family.

Anyway, I just couldn't help re-posting this super cute picture.

photo taken from ThePlump Pinay FB page

So many of us may have battled or is still battling body issues. Insecurity and low-self-esteem are the new oppressors. I, for one, have yet to reconcile with my "body demons" but as a mother, my deepest and sincerest wish is for my daughter to grow up with a great sense of self and an enormous love for her uniqueness. For her to be free from the shackles of insecurity and low self-esteem, to see her beauty no matter what shape, weight, or size she has and for her to be bigger that what the world perceives to be "pretty" and to never be (and should never aspire to be) merely pretty is what I pray for every single day.

"The word pretty is unworthy of everything you will be and no child of mine will be contained in 5 letters. You will be pretty intelligent, pretty creative, pretty amazing. But you will never be (and should never aspire to be) merely pretty." -- Katie Makkai

On Toddler Temper Tantrums

My 15 month old daughter can throw quite a fit. She will scream and squeal (like a powerhouse) her way into getting anything she wants. It's nearly impossible to reason with her especially with grown up logic. I know that tantrums are just her way of expressing her frustrations of the moment and that they are part of growing up. However, there are days when I just can't deal with all the screaming, squealing, and crying. I would feel guilty when I get mad at her. I get frustrated when I can't calm her down or make her stop.

This is ME throwing a fit! hahahah!

Father's Day Gift Idea for Your Husband

Hello! Hello!

Father's Day is again just around the corner. The malls are already showcasing different gift ideas fit for every budget. I, being a SAHM, depend on my husband for money. This means that even if I get him a gift it will still technically come out of his pockets. Now, I don't want to give him a gift that he technically bought for himself. I want to give him something unique, free as much as possible, and of course, heartfelt. In this day when everything practically has a price, that seems to be impossible.

I was actually thinking of giving my husband a spa gift certificate because he enjoys getting a massage once in a while; but that would still mean I'd have to spend. So one morning, in the Koreanovela I was watching, one of the characters was giving out customized gift certificates as gifts. I thought that was a brilliant idea. Why don't I just give him a massage myself? I know I do it all the time and it's not even that special. Making my OWN GIFT CERTIFICATE will make it EXTRA special plus I think it's cute. Hahaha! Cheesy or what?!

Here's a template of the GC I made:

Rainy Day Make Up

Summer is now officially over and it's been raining a lot lately. If, like me, you hate going outside in full make up only to get sprayed on (even under an umbrella) with rain, then here's a few tips that might just be helpful for you.

1. Use a primer. In days you just need to put a foundation on, apply a primer first. A good primer will help keep your make up in place in any weather condition. If you still want to make sure your make up isn't going anywhere, use a setting spray.

2. Use waterproof eyeliner and mascara. You don't want to go to work looking like a raccoon. Oh and also skip the smokey eye if you can.

3. Add a little shimmer. The day is already gloomy and sad. It's okay to use a little shimmer on the eyes to add a little brightness. I like using bright colors on dark, rainy days just to combat the gloominess.

4. Stick to powder blushes. Powders absorb oil and moisture better. Cream blushes will just make you feel more icky especially on humid weather. Opt for corals and peaches to bring warmth to your complexion.

5. Use matte lipsticks or  lip stains. When the wind blows your hair, strands or worse dirt may stick to your lip gloss  and that's not a very good sight and feeling. It can also be quite irritating having to remove hair sticking to lips all the time. I like sporting bright colored and purple lips.

6. Keep hair in place. If you don't have short hair like I do. It's best if you keep you hair in place like in a pony tail, a braid, or in a bun. This will save you from having frizzy hair which can mean a bad hair day. Plus, the wind might be blowing in all directions so this is a good idea to keep you hair from being all over your face.

Hope this is helpful! Thanks for dropping by! :)

Desowen Cream for Rashes, Insect Bites, and More

Hello! Hello!

When Yomi was a few weeks old, she had this excessive dry skin, almost like dandruff, on her scalp. Her pediatrician prescribed Desowen cream.

Desowen Cream is manufactured by Laboratories Galderma from France and is imported by Galderma Philippines Inc. These are the same people who make Cetaphil, I believe. Desonide, Desowen's generic name, is basically a topical corticosteroid. This is usually used to treat mild to moderate itching, redness, and swelling caused by certain skin conditions (e.g., eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash). It works by reducing the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in this types of condition

New FS Luscious Lipstick in Creamy Caramel

Here's one of the new FS Luscious Lipstick Collection!

I first saw this in one of Rattus Choki's ( ) post and I have been on the look out ever since. I am very fond of beauty counters in department stores because I know I'll always find affordable yet great make up. I love affordable and local cosmetics. That's why in one of my trips I checked to see if this collection is already available. Luckily, It already was.

This new collection has 9 creamy  and 9 matte lipsticks. You can check out Rattus' blog for the swatches. :) Anyway, these retail for Php 299.00. I got one of the creamy lipsticks in the shade Caramel because at that time nothing from the matte line caught my fancy.

On Mommy's Vanity: Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss

Here's another super affordable product from Essence.

Essence is probably known for affordable, hip, and quality make up. I got this lip gloss at SM Megamall for only Php 139.00. I am more of a lipstick-type-of-person that's why I can't really give in depth review about this product.
