Mommy-friendly (and sometimes Child-proof) Make Up

Hindi ako beauty expert o make up artist. I just happen to love make up and even if I have changed so much since I became a mother this love remained the same.

Naniniwala kasi ako na kahit gaano kahirap maging isang mommy, housewife o working mom, hindi pagiging makasarili ang mag-ayos or magpaganda paminsan-minsan. Sabi nga nila, Happy Mommy, Happy Household. If you feel good about yourself, it radiates toward others. You take better care of your children and husband.

So if you are a mom-on-the-go or a busy stay-at-home-mommy like me, here are some make up tips that might just work for you. Well, it does for me. :)

1. Tinted moisturizer or BB cream Sa dami ng kailangan asikasuhin bago pumasok sa opisina o kaya sa dami ng ginagawa mo sa bahay, who has time to put on a full-coverage foundation? Lalo pa sa panahon natin dito sa Pilipinas! Hay Sobrang init nakakalusaw lang ng mukha. Anyway, kung super busy ka at konti na lang oras mo para sa pagaayos, then BB creams or a tinted moisturizers are good for you. You don't need to use a brush. You can just use your fingers to blend it out. It can even out your skin tone making you look fresh and it doesn't feel heavy on the face.

2. Concealer or Brightener Lack of sleep and stress are common to busy moms especially if you've just given birth and have not found a system to juggle the whole household. Believe me it's OK to just walk around the house in your pajamas and bare face but once you need to go out, everyone doesn't need to know or see that you are sleep deprived and stressed out. Dress up and make sure you put on that concealer to make you look more awake and fresh. Use a concealer that's a little lighter than your skin tone for that instant brightness and freshness. Trust me it makes a lot of difference.

A Mother's Prayer for Its Daughter By Tina Fey

I came across this on my friend's Facebook page and I just think it's hilarious and honest at the same time.

First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.
May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.
When the Crystal Meth is offered, may she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half And stick with Beer.
Guide her, protect her when crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.
Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels. What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.
May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.
Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen.Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, For childhood is short – a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day – And adulthood is long and dry-humping in cars will wait.
O Lord, break the Internet forever, that she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.
And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.
And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back. “My mother did this for me once,”she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

Well written by Tina Fey

One day I hope to receive that grateful call. :)

Things I Learned in my First Year as a Mom

A year ago, I was a first-time mom when I had my daughter. Everything was new territory for me. Sure my mama was a nurse , I have a few mom friends who've given me so many wonderful advice and I've read What to Expect When You're Expecting but nothing really  prepared me for motherhood.

So let me share with you some of the things I learned within a year of being a mom:

On Mommy's Vanity: COVERGIRL LipPerfection™ Lipcolor

Bright, gorgeous color that can transform your day and your lips. Enriched with a silk moisturizing complex, our formula helps sustain moisture levels and helps create soft, smooth, beautiful lips in just 7 days.

These lipsticks have been around for quite a while now. Covergirl claims that these lipsticks can transform your lips if you use them for 7 straight days because of its silk moisturizing formula while giving you bright, beautiful colors. You can find these in leading department stores for Php 395.00.

I have no qualms with the packaging. Even if it is made of plastic it does not look and feel cheap. It feel sturdy when held, not as id the bullet would in one stroke. I think it's sleek and classy. I also love the bottom part where the color of the lipstick is shown. Makes it a lot easier for me to locate the color I want to use.

Now when Covergirl said bright, beautiful colors, they weren't kidding. The color and pigmentation is GORGEOUS. Opaque in one stoke. The shades come in cream and frost finishes.

These are very moisturizing. My lips does not dry out, crack or peel when I use these. It glides very smoothly on the lips. No dragging or tugging.  As for lasting power, these lasts fairly long on the lips. On average it can last up to 4 hours even with drinking or eating non-greasy food. Some colors however, like Spellbound and fervor, leave an even stain.

These a sweet vanilla scent which I am not a fan of but don't find them offensive.

L to R : Sultry, Spellbound, Fervor (taken with flash)
Spelbound on the lips

I LOVE these lipsticks. I love how smoothly they glide on the lips and how moisturizing they feel. I am very impressed with the color pay-off and the lasting power. There's a wide variety of shades to choose from but not all 44 shades are available in the Philippines.

Organix Moroccan Curling Perfection Defining Cream VS Monea Curl Defining Milk Hair Lotion

I recently had my hair permed just because I got tired of having long straight hair. I thought having curly locks would make it easier and faster to get ready whenever I'll go out of the house but NO. My hair became frizzy and out of control. I was clearly using the wrong product for my hair. So...I went ahead to the nearest mall and bought two hair products to try out.

The Ugly Truth to Pregnancy

This is actually a post from my old blog which I already deleted. I am just re-posting this here in my new blog.

When I got pregnant, I and everyone else was too excited. People told endless stories of how wonderful pregnancy is and how happy I will be when my  baby comes, yadda, yadda, yadda. It was, to be honest, information overload. The only thing about people getting too excited is that they are so optimistic and busy telling me the good stuff that they forgot to tell me the REALITY of pregnancy. It IS a wonderful experience, overwhelming in fact, but that "pregnancy glow" does not happen to everyone all throughout the 40 weeks.

Preggers @ 9 months
Pregnancy for me was both an exciting and overwhelming experience. I was excited about the baby but at the same time I was overwhelmed with all the changes that was happening. I had a difficult first trimester because I was experiencing "morning sickness" the WHOLE day. I had a hard time keeping any food down which made me lose weight. Aside from that I had this constantly bitter almost metallic taste in my mouth. Nothing seemed to taste good. It was scary because I was vomiting so hard it drained my energy every time. I was always tired.

On Mommy's Vanity: Shawill Mono Eyeshadows

I am going to feature an eyeshadow this time kasi napansin ko yung last 3 posts ko eh about lipsticks. I LOVE my lipsticks but it's nice to use eyeshadows once in a while. So here's what I've got, the Shawill Mono Eye Shadows. When I first swatched these I was immediately amazed at how pigmented and soft they are so I decided to purchase 2 first and then went back for 2 more.

Shawill kiosks can be located at SM department stores, Watsons, and Landmark. I initially thought the brand's Korean but the SA told me that it's from Italy or France. I don't really remember. Anyway, I didn't believe her. I think it's made in China. After all the packaging states that its  manufacturer is SILORAN cosmetics in China. Despite its origin I think this product is great. This is actually one of my favorites. Why? For Php 69.00 you get 4 g. worth of product with 11 or 12 shades to choose from. I only purchased 4 because they are the only wearable colors for me.

On Mommy's Vanity: Wet n' Wild Mega Last Lip Color

Wet n' wild truly has improved since the 80's. It is actually one of the best affordable imported brands you can find in the Philippines. Their best-sellers are their  eyeshadows and their lipsticks particularly the Mega Last Lip Colors.

The claim:
Lips take center stage! This 4-hour, longwearing lip color leaves a semi-matte, crème finish in one stroke. Glides on easily with rich, velvety color that doesn't cake, feather, or bleed. Made with hydrating skin-care ingredients: Hyaluronic Microspheres provide extraordinary adhesion to lips, an exclusive polymer complex offers cushion-like feel and texture, and natural marine plant extracts Coenzyme Q10 and Vitamins A & E help smooth lips.

Wet n' Wild can be found in SM department stores. Their products range from Php 119.00 to Php 499.00. You can get the Mega Last Lip Colors for Php. 299.00. These come in a long-wearing formula in 26 different shades although not all 26 colors are available here particularly the new shades. It is designed to last up to four hours while giving a rich, opaque coverage in one swipe in a creamy semi-matte finish.

I am not a fan tubes like this. The kind where a part of the lipstick is still exposed when you roll the tube down. It makes it easy to damage the product and I don't like it when my lipsticks break.

I did not notice any scent or taste which is a good thing for me. A lot of cheap/affordable lipsticks sometimes have synthetic or waxy scent.

This gives you amazing opaque pigment in one swipe. Most of the shades are true to color. Some of the shades will stain your lips like crazy while the lighter shades may appear chalky.

This has a smooth and creamy texture. As I said it has a semi-matte finish with a very slight sheen but no frost or glitters. It's not really moisturizing and a little bit drying. It doesn't drag but little lip balm underneath makes application a whole lot better. The shade can last you four hours without eating a burger or anything oily.

These are the shades I currently have and I am planning to get more.

some lips swatches 912c not included
903c Just Peachy on the lips

  •  Amazing color pay off
  •  Long-lasting
  •  No offensive taste or scent
  •  Affordable
  •  Wide selection of colors
  •  Some shades are close dupes of some high-end brands

  • Can make your lips dry
  • Flimsy packaging

I give this 5 out of 5 kiss marks because I think this is worth all the hype. An affordable lipstick that gives you amazing and long-lasting lip color.

On Mommy's Vanity: San San Long Wearing Lip Sheer in Peach Glow

Some of my favorite local beauty products come from HBC. I love their make up from San San and Allue. I love them because not only do they have very affordable prices but also they have good quality. I first fell in love with San San's Two Way Cake (I'll make another blog post for this) and I have been hooked on their products since then. My latest purchase from San San is the  Long Wearing Lip Sheer in Peach Glow.

On Mommy's Vanity: Aido Lipstick in No. 11

Hello Kikays!

Since I am very partial to affordable make up, my very first review/feature will be on the cheapest lipstick I own.

Aido lipstick in shade 11. This little baby retails for Php 25.00. Yes, 25 pesos only. Very affordable right? But don't rule this lipstick out just yet because this little one can pack quite a mean punch considering its size and price. Shade no. 11 is a pink-brown lipstick perfect for everyday wear. It is a gorgeous MLBB shade. This also looks great in all skin tones.
